Dr. Brandi Lewis originally hails from California, but now lives in Spring, Texas, where she recently opened her own practice, Brightside Braces. She’s one of those lucky and determined people who found her passion at a young age and worked hard to make her dreams come true. These days Dr. Lewis is a pillar of her community, inspiring the next generation of young people to pursue a career in orthodontics.

From vocational school to board-certified orthodontist

She got her start when she was just 16 years old in a high school vocational program for dental assisting. After that course she worked as a dental assistant and this exposure to the field led her to discover her passion for orthodontics.

Dr. Lewis did her undergraduate degree at the University of Houston Clear-Lake. Because she already knew exactly what she wanted to study, she wasted no time in applying for dental school. She was accepted to the UCLA School of Dentistry in Los Angeles, California, and graduated in 2014. Dr. Lewis then went directly to orthodontic residency at Jacksonville University in Florida. There, the clinic- based program had her getting hands-on experience from day one, which meant that by the time she was finished graduating she already had a lot of the practical knowledge that would serve her everyday in the office. 

In 2017, Dr. Lewis officially became a board-certified orthodontist, and practiced orthodontics for a while in Florida. A few years later she eventually was able to move back to Spring and open her own practice.  

Staying on the cutting-edge of orthodontic technology

Dr. Lewis knows how important it is to provide the best possible care for her patients, and part of that is utilizing the available technology that makes treatment more comfortable and efficient. One innovation in orthodontics that Dr. Lewis has available for her patients is 3D-printed custom brackets.

The joy of community

One of the things Dr. Lewis loves the most about living and working in the same community is that she really feels like she’s a part of something bigger. “I’ve lived in five different states, and living here gives me a sense of community that I haven’t experienced anywhere else. The people are just so great, and that’s one of the reasons I love Texas,” Dr. Lewis explained. “Another reason is because Texas has amazing food. You can go to a different restaurant every day of the week and meet kind-hearted people and eat great food…” 

She’s passionate about giving back to the community that has given her and her family so much. Her experience with the high school vocational course that set her on the path towards orthodontics inspired her to create an internship program at Brightside Braces. Interested local high schoolers are invited to apply to intern at her practice so they can get an inside look at what could be their future profession. Dr. Lewis has made her practice a great space for learning and training future generations of caring, professional orthodontists. 

In addition to getting to be an active participant in her community, one of the best parts about being an orthodontist for Dr. Lewis is watching her patients undergo a transformation. She’s had many cases that touch her heart, watching patients burst into tears at the end of their treatment when they finally get to see their beautiful, healthy smiles after many years of living with misaligned bites and crooked teeth. 

When she’s not helping her patients get the smile of their dreams, Dr. Lewis loves to spend time with her family and friends outdoors, hiking, walking, or just enjoying the sunshine.
