TAO is one of five components (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and west Louisiana) of the Southwest Society of Orthodontists (SWSO), which is a constituent of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).

To become a TAO member, an orthodontist has to complete an AAO membership application.
